What I've Seen Recently: Late May - Early June, 2023

i am returned once more!

youtubers

i have made a serious error in judgement by not bringing up the channel thorhighheels which is partially responsible for the dumping ground that is my journal these days. his videos are certainly an inspiration for me, if not in terms of aesthetics (i'm not particularly into early 2000swebcore visually) but in the way he unabashiedly just enjoys weird shit, lays it all out on the table, regardless of the current popular discourse. What I've Seen Recently is nowhere near as catchy as a title as So I've Been Playing but i do indeed count him as one of my influences, check him out (especially if you like weird ass gems of games).

he is also the composer for umurangi generation and has a bandcamp and i will say this IS my speed aesthetically. basically i recommend everything this guy does, check it out.

manga and anime

- i regularly search up anything with "yandere" in the title on mangadex and i stumbled upon this cute webcomic a yandere girl who's not very good at being a yandere. basically what it says on the tin happens in it, they're just short little 4 page comics. yanchan's design is very cute and her reason for being a yanchan is very sweet and (ugh must i? fine) wholesome as well. check it out if you're looking for a sweet little webcomic bite.

mobile games

to me, "mobile games" are a different beast than "video games", even if the distinction doesn't really matter much... anyway, i got my fate/grand order account back recently! after a 6-ish month gap of not playing it i think? man, f/go can be so tedious, but i honestly really missed not being active in it. there's just a certain je ne sais quoi to semi-mindlessly pushing buttons and racking up points, and my first event back was my favorite from last year (servant summer camp), so it really felt like a homecoming! there's fun in discovering stuff i forgot about too. like i 10/10/10'd van gogh for some reason? i love her, but more than beni? what was i doing. now i'm too broke to take care of her And i want to ascend my other servants so i have to put it off... smh!

mainly i've been doing the 8 million rank up and interlude quests i've been incubating like eggs for the past god knows howmany years. there's not much to note, but it's nice to see number go down and power go up. i'll list all the ones i completed recently...

- archer emiya: boring.
- jekyll and hyde: uh, noticably badly translated even by my standards. like delightworks i know you were broke but just put a period after the word Yes. insane.
- moriarty rank up 2: he do be strong, but i want to see moriarty and ritsuka flirt more :( need to do his interlude sometime but i'm saving it for a rainy day...

- arknights had a huge content dump recently. new event, new limited operator, and new season of integrated strategies! for non-arknights players, integrated strategies (i'm gonna call it is from now on) is our perm sorta-hardcore content (less so than contingency contract, but moreso than regular story stuff)... i had a lot more to talk about with it then the other event also shortened to is ironically so i'm gonna talk about it here for a while.

god i fucking hate sanity mechanics in this game. it's not even true sanity damage like it is in other games and it becomes especially annoying when combined with defense debuffs; you get stunned from the sanity debuff which pops and drains half your health and then you get instantly smacked down while you can't do anything due to the stun. in general i find the debuffs a lot more... stringent... annoying? in comparison to my experience with is2. like when you feel them you REALLY them in this mode such as getting an encounter/echo of we many AND a cursed collectable... i think having cursed collectables in the normal mode is really frustrating, there's already so much stuff to keep track of, but ah well.

- honkai star rail is fun! a lot of people share that opinion i think. however i recently got to the xianzhou (yeah i know i'm slow) and while i was running around it i was thinking about something sher said on twitter, how she doesn't like as much as liyue, and i'm inclined to agree... my main complaint is it feels cluttered, oddly enough. there's too many crates and boxes and crap stacked on top of each other. if it's supposed to be a world superpower, why is it so messy here...?

video games

i discovered the yandere game jam 2023 recently. i'll probably play some/most/all of the other ones later, but for now i just played...

it gets so lonely here by ebi-hime: i've played an ebi-hime work before (it was i believe the free version of the way they all go) and didn't finish it because i felt it got a little repetitive, but i liked this one well enough. fairytale yanderes are tasty. in general i thought the princess' route was the weakest despite what the author themself thinks. the swerve to cannibalism was abrupt. my personal favorite was the gravedigger, who was sympathetic AND let our poor protagonist enjoy some normalcy. the true end was pretty nice too. be free queen! although i do want the witch to get a happy ending too. having your yandere cake and eating it too is so hard.

well that's all for now!
